Life Will Knock You Down

Standing in Fall

What do you do when nothing makes sense? How do you handle it? The confusion. The chaos. The pain. What do we do? What do I do?

Like the times where everything hurts. Maybe the pain is physical. You’re sick, really sick. Or maybe it’s a broken bone or corrective surgery and whatnot, something that just totally interrupts your life. It frustrates you how weak you feel. Maybe it’s emotional hurt. Someone you love has completely gone down the wrong path, and you wonder if you did anything wrong. Maybe someone you loved so much is gone from this life. Or maybe you’re just in this tough position that makes you lose it. You feel alone, frustrated, and abandoned.

Maybe you’re suffering spiritually. You feel far from God. You slip into sin, a sin you keep trying to fight, but it keeps winning. Maybe you’re just in this spiritual desert that never seems to end. You feel completely dry inside and you don’t understand why. Why you’re stuck in sin. Why you feel so empty and alone. Why God feels so far away.

What about when things just plain suck. You feel stupid about it because these things are nothing compared to that person you know who has cancer or the time you lost your Grandpa. But still, this nagging boss, the piles of homework, the tireless schedule, that annoying classmate or coworker, the restless and sleepless nights, the car that’s still in the shop! They just keep eating you up inside and draining you of the joy and the peace that you once felt at some point in the distant past.

So what do we do when we have these trials, tribulations? These pains, sorrows, fears, and unfulfilled longings? What do we do when life just keeps hitting you with everything it’s got?  What do we do when it’s you against the world?

As I recall, we do not fighting alone, even though I feel alone. God is with us! He promised to never leave us! He is for us! He won’t let you be trampled and crushed by temptation or trials or tribulation! He will never leave nore forsake you! Even in the darkest and hardest times, even the times where life just kind of sucks, He is deserving of all  praise and all worship! He is always worthy, no matter what!

No matter what we go through, God is with us through it all. He will never leave us. He will never forsake us. He is sovereign over all of our circumstances. He will carry us through the darkest valleys and hold us in the longest nights. He is always good, and always worthy of our praise.

All of my life,
In every season,
You are still God.
I have a reason to sing,
I have a reason to worship.

– Desert Song by Hillsong

“What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

‘For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.’

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” – Romans 8:31-39

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” – 1 Corinthians 4:8
